R-22 Freon Ban

The past couple of years, we have been warning you that come January 2020, the R-22 Freon type will be banned. It will actually be illegal for it to both be manufactured in the United States and imported. The reason behind this is that this type of Freon is very dangerous to our ozone layer.

Since at this point in time the Freon is legal, you do have the option to load up on the Freon now. This will save you from having no other option next year but either paying an astronomical price to a company that still has some R-22 or purchase a new system. Right now, the Environmental Protection Agency states that if a company purchased the Freon before January 1, 2020, and it is shipped in the United States, companies will still be able to purchase it for homeowners. This is where supply/demand costs come in, though, and the price per pound will fluctuate.

The last units made with this type of Freon was in 2010; so we do realize that there are some out there who do have this type of system. If you are interested in purchasing a new unit that is more environmentally friendly, please give us a call! We would be happy to go over all of your options with you.
