The Department of Energy states that the average lifespan of a unit is between fifteen and twenty years old. If you live in the vicinity of salt water, the lifespan of your unit will be less. If you have a system that is over ten years old and you are having major issues with it, think about replacing it instead of repairing it. Once it is that old, you do not know for sure how long the repair will even last.
